The Color We Never Chose: How a Printing Mistake Became TARAMAR’s Signature Green
At the beginning of developing the TARAMAR line, we were deeply immersed in research revealing the extraordinary bioactivity of Icelandic nature. The ocean and the land here hold exceptionally potent compounds, with remarkable effects on skin — and from that insight came a simple decision: the packaging should reflect the nature it came from. Its power. Its purity. Its beauty.
The Northern Lights became part of that vision almost immediately. They’re a living manifestation of the Earth’s own frequency, expressed through color and movement — and if TARAMAR was going to carry Icelandic nature onto a shelf, it needed to carry that too.
The Color Took Its Own Path
As with every part of the TARAMAR journey, the color didn’t arrive the way we planned it. Originally, we designed the packaging in deep sea-green and blue tones — considered, deliberate, exactly what we’d intended.
Then the first print run came back wrong.
A mistake at the print shop produced a color we hadn’t asked for: a startling green that seemed to hold endless light inside it. So much light, in fact, that when the products sit on a shelf, they appear to glow from within. It felt less like an error and more like nature had reached in and made a decision of its own.
We didn’t understand what had happened right away. The result was so far from what we’d intended that we were nearly in tears — there was no way we could afford to reprint. We simply had to go forward with what we had.
What Happened Next
Slowly, as the products began appearing on shelves, something shifted. Surrounded by the pale, muted packaging typical of the industry, ours didn’t just sit there — it glowed. Full of light, full of life, impossible to miss. Our spirits lifted along with it.
The response was extraordinary. The design earned high praise, and later, an international award for packaging design.
Is it possible that TARA stepped in, took matters into her own hands, and chose the right color for us herself? It wouldn’t have been the only time something unexplained quietly shaped the direction TARAMAR was meant to take.
