When we first discovered Winged Kelp, we had no idea we were uncovering a true treasure trove — this Icelandic seaweed turned out to be a powerhouse of skin-loving nutrients. But we didn’t know that yet. All we had, in the early 2010s, was very limited published research and our own hands.
So we made our selection the way we’ve always trusted most: by bioresonance.
What We Tried First
At the time, we were working with bladderwrack — a much stiffer seaweed, with thick stems and tough, rubbery bladders. Its bioresonance felt sharp, angular, almost rigid. We used it in our formulations for a full year. The results were underwhelming. Neither we nor our testing volunteers were satisfied, and no amount of patience seemed to change that.
Then we found Winged Kelp.
From the moment we touched it, the difference was obvious. It was incredibly soft — nothing like the coarse, stubborn texture we’d grown used to. Laying it against skin felt intuitive, almost instinctive, as though it had been shaped to melt into the deeper layers and nourish from within rather than simply sit on the surface.
We couldn’t prove any of that yet. We just knew it felt right.
Eight Years Later, the Science Caught Up
It wasn’t until eight years after that first touch — when we finally received a research grant to analyze Winged Kelp scientifically — that we uncovered what had been hiding in plain sight all along.
Among every seaweed we tested, Winged Kelp stood alone: the only one containing compounds that actively inhibited the breakdown of collagen and elastin, and inhibited tyrosinase — the enzyme responsible for uneven pigmentation — more strongly than any of the others tested. A true ally for the skin, revealing exactly the kind of properties that help restore and reinforce the skin’s own structure.
Even more impressive, it showed a remarkable ability to neutralize free radicals, with genuinely strong antioxidant activity — another key piece supporting skin vitality and resilience over time.
Eight years of instinct, finally backed by data. Sometimes the hands know before the lab catches up.
